Queensrÿche – Q2K (1999)

Released on September 14, 1999, Q2K marked a new era for Queensrÿche, both in sound and lineup. This was the first album without founding guitarist Chris DeGarmo, whose departure left a significant mark on the band's creative direction. Taking his place was guitarist Kelly Gray, bringing a heavier, more modern hard rock feel to the record. With a focus on groove-oriented riffs, minimalistic arrangements, and darker lyrical themes, Q2K continued the band’s shift away from their progressive metal roots into more alternative and grunge-inspired territory.

Though met with mixed reactions, Q2K reflected a band in transition—experimenting, evolving, and redefining their identity at the turn of the millennium.

Band Lineup:

  • Geoff Tate – Vocals, keyboards

  • Michael Wilton – Guitar

  • Kelly Gray – Guitar

  • Eddie Jackson – Bass, backing vocals

  • Scott Rockenfield – Drums

Track List:

  1. Falling Down

  2. Sacred Ground

  3. One Life

  4. When the Rain Comes…

  5. How Could I?

  6. Beside You

  7. Liquid Sky

  8. Breakdown

  9. Burning Man

  10. Wot Kinda Man

  11. The Right Side of My Mind

Q2K was a bold yet turbulent chapter—an album that explored new ground while wrestling with the weight of the band’s storied past.
